3A Region 2 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Aberdeen extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 2 this week by beating Mooreville, 52-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Aberdeen led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on the Troopers. Josh Williams threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 29 yards in the win.
Sammie Burroughs was the best wideout in the league this week as Mark Bray's team defeated Mooreville. Burroughs racked up three receptions for 75 yards. Chico Harrison helped Aberdeen's passing attack out by catching one ball for 32 yards.
Wesley Ross put up the best numbers through the air as South Pontotoc lost to Mantachie. He finished with one completions for 15 yards and 15 touchdowns. Ross' favorite target this week was Josh Estes, who caught three passes for 31 yards.
Harrison was the most productive running back in 3A Region 2 this week. He ran for 121 yards on 16 carries as the Bulldogs bested Kevin Austin's team. Javarius Crawford also contributed to the rushing game with 53 yards on the ground.
Aberdeen's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bulldogs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Williams has thrown for 1296 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Aaron McMillian has 18 catches for 495 yards. Harrison leads the league in rushing with 686 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Water Valley takes on second place Aberdeen. Water Valley topped Nettleton last week, while Aberdeen beat the Troopers.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Blue Devils take on the Bulldogs. Water Valley has allowed 124 points this season, while Aberdeen has given up 176. Brad Embry's team allowed 13 points last week as it defeated the Tigers.
There should be lots of points scored when the Blue Devils and the Bulldogs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Water Valley comes in having scored 352 this season, while Aberdeen has scored 286. The Blue Devils scored 33 points last week as they topped Nettleton.
