The Maryvale Flyers will challenge the Dunkirk Marauders at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dunkirk will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Maryvale extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Flyers never let Olean get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The Flyers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 3rd (when they won 12-1).
Jameson McNeill was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dominic Daly was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Dunkirk had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the Purple Eagles 13-0. The victory was nothing new for the Marauders as they're now sitting on three straight.
Josh Lemanski and Henry Leone did most of the damage at the plate: Lemanski went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Leone went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gabe Valentine, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Dunkirk was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Dunkirk's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Maryvale, their victory bumped their record up to 16-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Maryvale has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Dunkirk struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Maryvale was able to grind out a solid win over Dunkirk in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 9-4. Do the Flyers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
