Archbishop Murphy has won five straight games at home, while Kamiak has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Knights at 4:00 p.m. Archbishop Murphy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Archbishop Murphy got the win against Marysville-Pilchuck by a conclusive 21-1. That's two games straight that the Wildcats have won by exactly 20 runs.
Sarah Fletcher made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Fletcher was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Evans, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayla Hookfin, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Archbishop Murphy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Kamiak was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell just short of Snohomish by a score of 3-2.
Like Archbishop Murphy, Kamiak also got a great game from a two-way player: Synclair Mawudeku. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Mawudeku has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Mawudeku wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Veighey, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Archbishop Murphy's victory bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Kamiak, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 11-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Archbishop Murphy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Kamiak struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Archbishop Murphy might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Kamiak in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
