Football Recap: Tokay Comes Up Short

After soaring to 41 points the game before, Tokay was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 14-13 to the Pleasant Grove Eagles. Despite 81 more yards than the Eagles, the Tigers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Defeat or not, Tokay got some senior leadership from Amire Fleming and Jayden Barba. Fleming gained 157 total yards and a touchdown, while Barba threw for 170 yards and two TDs. Fleming is also crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 136 every time he's taken the field this season.

Pleasant Grove was led to victory by Hekili Hernandez and Ivan Saeyang. Hernandez rushed for 169 yards and one score, while Saeyang rushed for 63 yards on only eight carries. Those 169 rushing yards gave Hernandez a new career-high.

Having lost for the first time this season, Tokay fell to 2-1. As for Pleasant Grove, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tokay will take on McNair at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Tigers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Pleasant Grove, they will challenge Lincoln at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
