The Kemp Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Eustace Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Kemp and 17 for Eustace dating back to last season.
Kemp fell victim to Teague's stalwart defense on Saturday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 50-0 loss at the hands of the Lions. While losing is never fun, Kemp can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1019th, while Teague is ranked 425th).
Meanwhile, Eustace also failed to score in their most recent game. They were beaten by Groesbeck 62-0 on Friday. Eustace was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Kemp's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Malakoff and 8-1 Westwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 76.7% over those games). As for Eustace, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Kemp against Eustace when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 54-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kemp since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
