Basketball Recap: Highland Prep Takes a Loss

Highland Prep played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the ALA - West Foothills Guardians, falling 71-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Honey Badgers have suffered since February 5, 2024.

Highland Prep's loss came despite strong showings from Aaliyah Minick and Madison Lawrence. Minick went 6 for 10 on her way to 17 points and three steals, while Lawrence almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Minick a new career-high in points.

It was another big night for Izabella Juarez, who went 14 of 23 on her way to 39 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals for ALA - West Foothills. That makes it four consecutive games in which Juarez has scored at least a third of ALA - West Foothills' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Oler, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points and five steals.

Highland Prep's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 12-6. As for ALA - West Foothills, they moved to 4-6 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Highland Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-37 win against Kingman on the 10th. As for ALA - West Foothills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-12 victory against Chino Valley on the 10th.
