Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Cardinal Newman

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cardinal Newman had no problem doing just that on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-33 victory over the Carrollwood Day Patriots. The win was nothing new for the Crusaders as they're now sitting on four straight.

Jyron Hughley had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 155 yards and two TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 205 yards and three touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 100.4 rushing yards per game. Leslie Mosley was in the mix as well, providing Cardinal Newman with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cardinal Newman was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 274 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Cardinal Newman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of William Hart and Adam Balogoun-Ali. Hart also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Balogoun-Ali got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Carrollwood Day still got an impressive performance from Myles Mcdonald, who rushed for 101 yards and one TD, and also threw for 371 yards on 26 of 39 attempts.

Cardinal Newman's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Carrollwood Day, their loss dropped their record down to 12-1.

Cardinal Newman didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-14 win against Chaminade-Madonna on the 11th. Carrollwood Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
