Westview had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They really took it to Burke for the full four quarters, racking up a 67-33 win on the road. That's another feather in the cap for Westview, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Westview's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tayvin Murphy, who scored 21 points along with 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kobe Mapp, who scored 15 points along with 6 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Burke had strong showings from Michael White, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 blocks, and Marcus Buchanan, who scored 10 points.
Westview's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Burke, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Westview will be playing in front of their home fans against Omaha Central at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Omaha Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Burke, they will square off against Buena Vista at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Buena Vista focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday.
