Johnson County took a 58-43 bruising from Hancock Central. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Johnson County in their matchups with Hancock Central: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Johnson County lost, one person who can't be blamed is Javaris Duckworth. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Duckworth has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Xavier Wright, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Johnson County struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Hancock Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Karter Harper out in front who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Harper has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Ingram, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Johnson County's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Hancock Central, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Johnson County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Wilkinson County at 8:30 p.m. on January 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Wilkinson County is ranked 487th, while Johnson County is ranked 480th). As for Hancock Central, they will head out on the road to take on Georgia Military College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Georgia Military College is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
