West Las Vegas is 1-8 against Bernalillo since April of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Dons will take on the Spartans at 3:00 p.m. West Las Vegas' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Bernalillo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
West Las Vegas is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Robertson.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bernalillo). They blew past Hope Christian 21-3 on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won eight matches by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Calandria Montoya was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Kylee Herrera and Bella Perez did most of the damage at the plate: Herrera got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Perez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave Perez a new career-high. Neiva Montoya was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Bernalillo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .675. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hope Christian only posted an OBP of .348.
Bernalillo has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Las Vegas, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
West Las Vegas beat Bernalillo 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
