Burbank pushed their score all the way to 64 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 86-64 loss at the hands of Monterey Trail. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burbank in their matchups with Monterey Trail: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Burbank had strong showings from Michael Butcher, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Paris Clay, who scored 20 points along with two steals. Clay has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Markus Butcher was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Kennedy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-53 loss to Laguna Creek on Friday. Kennedy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Kennedy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aharon Young, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Eric Lopez, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Burbank's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-9.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Burbank have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.6 threes per game. It's a different story for Kennedy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 threes per game. Given Burbank's sizeable advantage in that area, Kennedy will need to find a way to close that gap.
