Spring Grove is a perfect 10-0 against Houston since October of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lions will venture away from home to challenge the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. Houston took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Spring Grove, who comes in off a win.
Spring Grove took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They put the hurt on LeRoy-Ostrander with a sharp 3-0 win.
While Spring Grove won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.
Spring Grove can attribute much of their success to Izabel Kaufmann, who had eight digs and two aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Spring Grove was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last seven matchups.
Meanwhile, Houston came up short against Rushford-Peterson on Monday and fell 3-1. The loss continues a trend for the Hurricanes in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost nine in a row.
Houston started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 14-25, 25-10, 25-13, 25-15.
Spring Grove will need to focus on slowing down Emmie Melbo, one of several Houston players who made an impact when they last played. She had 21 digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Jorja Meyer, who had eight kills, five digs, four aces, and one block.
Spring Grove has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Houston, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Spring Grove has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 8.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Houston struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Spring Grove took their victory against Houston when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
