The West Deptford Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Haddon Heights Garnets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
West Deptford fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Haddonfield on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldawgs by a score of 2-1. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Bulldawgs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Landon Delaney was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Delaney wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jason Hartman, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Haddon Heights had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with an 18-3 victory. That 15-run margin sets a new team best for the Garnets this season.
Brady McFadden looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Haddon Heights got a massive performance out of Kevin Clark, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Clark a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Simon, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Haddon Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive games.
Haddon Heights' record is now 13-2. As for West Deptford, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Deptford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Haddon Heights struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Deptford couldn't quite get it done against Haddon Heights in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 10-6. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
