The Clayton Comets and the Corinth Holders Pirates will round out the year against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Clayton took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 victory over GRACE Christian. While the Comets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Clayton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Y'Zana Lee Randle, who went 10-for-22 to rack up 25 points. Lee Randle has become a key player for the Comets: the team is undefeated when she posts at least 15 points, but 1-2 otherwise. Christa Greene was another key player, shooting 50% from the field on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.
Clayton was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Corinth Holders had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came out on top against the Gryphons by a score of 54-46.
Corinth Holders' win came from a few key players that Clayton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Darla Lee, who went 8-for-13 en route to 23 points. Her big performance that afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Sizemore, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.
Corinth Holders' win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Clayton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Clayton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Corinth Holders struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Clayton came up short against Corinth Holders when the teams last played back in February, falling 79-69. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
