The Point Pleasant Boro Panthers will be playing at home against the Long Branch Green Wave at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Point Pleasant Boro has three straight victories, Long Branch has 20 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Point Pleasant Boro was able to grind out a solid win over South River, taking the game 58-48. Given Point Pleasant Boro's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while South River is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
While Long Branch couldn't quite beat Neptune on Thursday, the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 53-point defeat they were dealt on Wednesday. Long Branch fell just short of Neptune by a score of 51-49. Long Branch has not had much luck with Neptune recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Point Pleasant Boro pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Long Branch, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.
