North East is 1-9 against Fairview since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Grape Pickers will host the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. North East is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
North East barely beat Girard the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Grape Pickers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Yellowjackets a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Grape Pickers have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jerek Turlij made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Colton Owens was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Braydon Cornman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Fairview won against Northwestern on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Tigers walked away with a 6-2 win over Corry. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Like North East, Fairview also got a great game from a two-way player: Vinny Campoli. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Campoli was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
Campoli wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Szklenski, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Szklenski is becoming a predictor of Fairview's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).
North East's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. As for Fairview, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
North East's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Grape Pickers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fairview, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will North East continue to outrun the ball?
North East might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Fairview in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Grape Pickers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
