1A District 6 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Pointe Coupee Central extended the longest winning streak in 1A District 6 this week by beating False River, 34-13. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. The Hornets beat North Central 44-8 earlier in the week.
Luke Judice provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Westminster Academy topped St. Edmund. He completed 20 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 19 yards. Judice's favorite target this week was Jalen Williams, who caught eight passes for 101 yards.
Donyell Young was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 107 yards on six carries as the Crusaders defeated the Fighting Blue Jays. Wesley Bellard also contributed to the rushing game with 33 yards on the ground.
Darius Munson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Catholic of Pointe Coupee beat the Hurricanes. The junior forced one fumble, recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
Jonas Guichet threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns. He was 13-19 with zero interceptions.
Westminster Academy's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Judice has thrown for 1138 yards and 38 touchdowns this season, while Williams has 39 catches for 587 yards. Judice also leads the league in rushing with 482 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Westminster Academy takes on Robert Funderburk's team. Tommy Badon's team is currently in first, while the Hornets are in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Crusaders and Catholic of Pointe Coupee face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Westminster Academy comes in having scored 267 this season, while the Hornets have scored 160. The Crusaders scored 47 points last week as they defeated St. Edmund.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,540 from 9,898. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 44-8 victory over North Central last week.
