Charlotte is 8-2 against North Port since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Fightin' Tarpons will host the Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Charlotte hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Charlotte came into this matchup off a tough 12-run loss on Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Evangelical Christian by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Fightin' Tarpons have suffered since March 7, 2024.
Dava Hoffer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Nova Wharton was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, North Port made easy work of Port Charlotte on Wednesday and carried off a 10-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.
North Port also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Payson Rumley gave up only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Rumley.
On the hitting side, North Port let Kaitlin Kohlenberg and Hailey Perez run wild. Kohlenberg scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4, while Perez scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Kohlenberg is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Allison Timmons was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
North Port is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Charlotte, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Charlotte took their victory against North Port in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Fightin' Tarpons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
