The Wahoo/Bishop Neumann Warriors will head out to take on the Plattsmouth Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wahoo/Bishop Neumann was handed a nine-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Elkhorn 4-3.
Alex Barry was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Barry was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Marxsen, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plattsmouth). They put the hurt on Maranatha Christian Academy/Immaculata with a sharp 23-1 win on Friday. Considering the Blue Devils have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Wahoo/Bishop Neumann, Plattsmouth also got a great game from a two-way player: Joshua Gradoville. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gradoville was also big at the plate, scoring two runs.
In other batting news, Brady Thomas was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jacob Longton, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Plattsmouth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Plattsmouth pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Wahoo/Bishop Neumann, their record is now 5-7.
Wahoo/Bishop Neumann might still be hurting after the 10-3 loss they got from Plattsmouth when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
