Banning put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past the Cabrillo Jaguars to the tune of 55-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Pilots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 870th).
Banning got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathen Grebb out in front who rushed for 121 yards and one score on only six carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Grebb got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 80 yards. Noa Tuvalu was another key signal caller, throwing for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight passes.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Banning, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Christopher Cobarruvias, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Banning didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Martinez and Cobarruvias. Another thorn in Cabrillo's side was Kody Galloway, who picked up two sacks, made seven total tackles, and defended one pass.
Banning's record is now 3-0. As for Cabrillo, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Coming up, Banning will venture away from home to square off against Garfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cabrillo, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Big Bear at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
