Roswell took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They claimed a resounding 45-17 victory over the Peachtree Ridge Lions. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Lions are ranked 71st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trey Smith went supernova, rushing for 100 yards and a pair of scores, while also throwing for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Roswell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peachtree Ridge only rushed for 83 rushing yards.
Another reason for the win was Roswell's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. Jake Smith was especially locked on to Peachtree Ridge's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Lions' side was Brody Duffy, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made 13 total tackles.
Despite the loss, Peachtree Ridge still got an impressive performance from Rayshaun Parks, who rushed for 83 yards, and also threw for 203 yards while completing 94.7% of his passes. Parks got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 75 yards. A healthy portion of Parks' aerial production (126 yards to be exact) went to Kobe Adeleke-Hokes.
