The Granada Bobcats were the 53-44 winner over the Springfield Longhorns when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Granada opened the new year with a less-than-successful 30-21 defeat to Springfield. Granada has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was ToriLin Riddle, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Riddle continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Granada struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bay Ellis was her usual excellent self, scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Springfield. Ellis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karina Garcia, who scored three points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Granada has fallen quite a ways from their 20-5 record last season and are now at 2-4. As for Springfield, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Granada will take on La Veta at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (La Veta is ranked 202nd, while Granada is ranked 186th). As for Springfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cheyenne Wells at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Cheyenne Wells focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday.
