It was a good run, but Akron unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Prairie Mustangs by a score of 3-2. Akron took Prairie into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking six-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 15-9.
Rayna Fountain paced Akron's offense, picking up 11 kills. Fountain got some help from Kashlee Randel and her 26 assists. Finally, Molly O'Neil kept Akron's defense grounded, leading the team with four blocks.
Akron's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Prairie, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-0.
After both having extra time off, Akron and Holyoke will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The contest will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Prairie, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Wray on the 6th.
