It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Edgewood Academy Wildcats had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 win over the Colts. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Edgewood Academy.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Edgewood Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Johnny Groves, who scored 13 points along with three steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Groves posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Whitt, who scored 11 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Edgewood Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-16 record this season. As for Hooper Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-8.
Edgewood Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Abbeville Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on February 9th. One thing working in Abbeville Christian Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 17 games. Hooper Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
