The Woodland Wolves were the 52-49 winner over the Mesa Verde Mavericks when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Woodland fell just short of Mesa Verde by a score of 62-59. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Wednesday (55), Woodland still had to take the loss.
Woodland lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lincoln Twilley, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds. Twilley is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Dylan Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Mesa Verde got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ryan Jorgensen out in front who scored 22 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Jorgensen has scored at least 25% of Mesa Verde's points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Garcia, who scored 18 points.
Woodland's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Mesa Verde, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodland is on the road again on Friday and play against Dixon at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. As for Mesa Verde, they will challenge Mira Loma at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mira Loma presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mesa Verde in California (Mira Loma is ranked 644th, while Mesa Verde is ranked 1311th).
