The White Oak Vikings will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Laney Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep alive their perfect four-game seasons.
White Oak has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 27 points or more this season. They claimed a resounding 78-44 victory over Topsail at home. Given White Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Topsail is ranked 327th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead White Oak to victory, but perhaps none more so than Derrick Benbow jr, who scored 17 points along with 4 steals. The game was Benbow jr's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Curtis Jackson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Laney made easy work of Pender on Friday and carried off a 70-48 victory.
Laney got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Quin?sier Waddell out in front who scored 9 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaquan Bowen, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
White Oak's victory lifted them to 4-0 while Topsail's defeat dropped them down to 1-5.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as White Oak and Laney are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. White Oak hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 69.5 points per game. However, it's not like Laney struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 60.5 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
White Oak came up short against Laney when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 57-48. Thankfully for White Oak, Khalil Genwright (who scored 31 points along with 6 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
