The Sullivan Golden Arrows will be taking part in a tournament against the Living Water Homeschool Marlins at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Sullivan will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Sullivan's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over North Daviess.
Mylee Vandevender was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaylynn Hobbs, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Aphtyn Earley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Sullivan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Living Water Homeschool). They blew past Bethesda Christian 16-7 on Tuesday. With that win, the Marlins brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
Like Sullivan, Living Water Homeschool also got a great game from a two-way player: Elena Robertson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those hits were Robertson's first of the season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one double.
In other batting news, Isa Gonzalez Knarr was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Those hits marked the first that she got this season. Another player making a difference was Hannah Jones, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Sullivan pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Living Water Homeschool, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Sullivan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Living Water Homeschool struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
