League recap: Mattox breaks off league-leading run for Glendale Prep Academy

Myles Mattox of Glendale Prep Academy ran for the longest rushing play in Charter 2A (8 Man) this season against Madison Prep last week. Mattox scampered for 96 yards on the play and finished with 221 on the day as his team topped the Patriots.

Apache Trail extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Harvest Prep Academy, 58-28. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Apache Trail's dynamic duo of Tate Powser and Kevin Box proved tough for Harvest Prep Academy to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Powser threw for 336 yards and six touchdowns and Box had 122 yards receiving. Brian Drennan helped Apache Trail's passing attack out by catching five balls for 75 yards.

Fredric Hoerr made the biggest impact on defense this week as Glendale Prep Academy beat Madison Prep. The senior recorded one fumble and grabbed one sack.

The Wolfpack's Powser and Box have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Powser has thrown for 1201 yards this season, while Box, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 19 catches for 617 yards. Glendale Prep Academy's Zach Yada leads the league in rushing yards with 1049.

The marquee game in Charter 2A (8 Man) this week will be the clash between Glendale Prep Academy and Apache Trail. Glendale Prep Academy enters the contest ranked 23rd in the state, while the Wolfpack ranks 22nd.

There should be lots of points scored when Glendale Prep Academy and Apache Trail face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Glendale Prep Academy comes in having scored 330 this season, while the Wolfpack have scored 232. Glendale Prep Academy scored 44 points last week as it topped Gordon Sheaffer's team.

Apache Trail was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Nathen Baker's team. The Wolfpack came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
