Centennial is 1-9 against Hobbs since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Centennial will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Hobbs is ranked eighth).
On Saturday, Centennial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 36-32 to Mayfield.
Despite the loss, Centennial had strong showings from Audi Torrez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Elena Gonzales, who scored nine points. The match was Torrez's fourth in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, Hobbs waltzed into their match last Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They blew past Navajo Prep 81-32 on the road. The result was nothing new for Hobbs, who have now won six matches by 39 points or more so far this season.
Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Hobbs, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Centennial came up short against Hobbs in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 54-49. Can Centennial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
