Scott County and Lexington Catholic are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Scott County sitting on three straight victories and Lexington Catholic on nine.
Scott County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Bryan Station on Wednesday. The Cardinals never let the Defenders get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Cardinals this season.

Jack Willhite looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Will Rose, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Garrett Sparks was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Scott County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Lexington Catholic won against Lafayette on Tuesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Knights didn't even let Male on the board, marking the Knights' second-straight 6-0 shutout. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Josh Edwards and Jack Sams dominated on the mound. Edwards tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Sams tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Jack Hughes was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Another player making a difference was Bennie Lawrence, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Scott County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-9. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of four runs across that stretch. As for Lexington Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 19-8-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Scott County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lexington Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Scott County beat Lexington Catholic 10-7 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
