The Northern York Polar Bears are taking a road trip to square off against the Mechanicsburg Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Northern York's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Mechanicsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Thursday, Northern York needed a bit of extra time to put away West Perry. They skirted past the Mustangs 5-4.
Northern York got a great performance from Ambrose Depasqua as he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits.
At the plate, Matthew Kendall was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Oskar Dees, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Mechanicsburg let Mifflin County stack six runs on them in the second inning on Thursday but luckily Mechanicsburg prevailed anyway. The Wildcats walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Huskies. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Gino Coleman tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has become a key player for Mechanicsburg: the team is 8-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jager Nailor, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Eli Reider also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Northern York has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mechanicsburg, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7.
Northern York skirted past Mechanicsburg 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Polar Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
