Notus extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Monday, dropping them down to 0-2. They came up short against the Horseshoe Bend Mustangs, falling 22-7. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Cierra Norris was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Libni Vargas, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Horseshoe Bend, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 16.5 runs this season.
On Horseshoe Bend's side, Trin Catherman and Kimber Jones were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Catherman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Jones struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). At bat, Catherman got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles, while Jones got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Jones is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season.
In other batting news, Kinzee Ranft was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with five stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Addy Asher, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.
Notus has already played their next contest, a 36-23 victory against Wilder on the 8th. As for Horseshoe Bend, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 13-0 win against Garden Valley on the 8th.
