Volleyball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Antioch's Winning Streak

After a string of 12 wins, Antioch's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 2-0 to the Grayslake Central Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in April.

While Antioch was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-17.

Justin Niznik paced Antioch's offense, picking up five kills. Niznik got some help from Ryan Jilly and his six assists. Jilly was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.

Antioch's loss dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Grayslake Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Antioch will venture away from home to challenge Lakes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Grayslake Central, they will head out to face off against Libertyville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight.
