The Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles will challenge the High Point Christian Academy Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
High Point Christian Academy will be up against a hot Cape Fear Christian Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. Cape Fear Christian Academy never let Wayne Christian get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on April 14th. Give Cape Fear Christian Academy's pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
The team relied heavily on Kristina Kennedy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Megan Harrold was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Cape Fear Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne Christian only posted a batting average of .059.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times High Point Christian Academy and Gaston Christian had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. The Cougars have beaten the Eagles the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Paisley Dixon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dixon was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.
In other batting news, High Point Christian Academy got a massive performance out of Hailey Allred, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave Allred a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blakely Bowman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Cape Fear Christian Academy pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for High Point Christian Academy, their record now sits at 12-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Cape Fear Christian Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like High Point Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cape Fear Christian Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over High Point Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2015, winning 8-4. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
