Baseball Game Preview: Forreston Cardinals vs. Milledgeville Missiles

Forreston has gone 8-2 against Milledgeville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cardinals will be playing at home against the Missiles at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Forreston has eight straight victories, Milledgeville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Thursday, Forreston made easy work of Pearl City and carried off an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won 15 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Alec Schoonhoven spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Politsch, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Greenfield, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Forreston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pearl City only posted a batting average of .143.

Meanwhile, Milledgeville came up short against Amboy on Thursday, falling 9-1. That's two games in a row now that the Missiles have lost by exactly eight runs.

Forreston pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Milledgeville, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Forreston beat Milledgeville 7-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Missiles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
