Union County is 1-0 against East Jackson since October of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Union County Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the East Jackson Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Union County is ranked 176th, while East Jackson is ranked 174th).
After a string of four wins, Union County's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a rough 55-35 loss at the hands of Providence Christian Academy. Union County was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-14.
Caiden Tanner put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes. Cade Dockery also helped out as he racked up 100 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, East Jackson unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak two weeks ago. They took a serious blow against Fellowship Christian, falling 55-21. East Jackson was down 48-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
East Jackson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Quay Hill, who rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown, and Drew Richardson who rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Richardson's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
The losses dropped Union County to 5-2 and East Jackson to 6-1.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Tanner and Richardson. Tanner has put up some stellar numbers this year, and currently owns excellent season averages of 238.1 passing yards and two passing touchdowns per game this season. For his part, Richardson has averaged 178.1 passing yards and no passing touchdowns per game this season.
Union County didn't have too much breathing room in their match against East Jackson when the teams last played back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 21-17 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Union County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
