The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 68-59 loss to Madelia. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Tuesday (55), Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda still had to take the loss.
Several Coyotes players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Logan Hattendorf, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds. The contest was Hattendorf's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Gass, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda and nudges their season record down to 1-7. As for Madelia, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda will square off against Adrian/Ellsworth at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Adrian/Ellsworth is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Madelia will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Nicollet at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th. Nicollet is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
