The UR Academy Lions just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the NorthPoint Christian Academy NightHawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Monday, UR Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Providence Classical, but they still walked away with a 62-58 win. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 50.7 points per game.
UR Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Melton out in front who went 5 for 7 on his way to 17 points and three steals. Gabriel Thompson was another key player, going 11 of 23 on his way to 27 points.
UR Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, NorthPoint Christian Academy didn't have too much trouble with UR Academy back in December of 2024 as they won 62-47. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the NightHawks.
NorthPoint Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Chelan Chudgar, who posted 36 points. Chudgar has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Gabe Spann was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
NorthPoint Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for UR Academy, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: UR Academy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.2 boards per game. However, it's not like NorthPoint Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
