Softball Recap: Apex Friendship Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Apex Friendship had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Green Level on Monday. The Patriots blew past the Gators 11-1. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by eight runs or more this season.

Maura Schwanke tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sydney Joyce, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Kaylee Marquis, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Apex Friendship always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Level only posted an OBP of .167.

Apex Friendship's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Green Level, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Apex Friendship will face off against Middle Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight. As for Green Level, they will challenge Panther Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Gators are facing the Catamounts at the right time seeing as the Catamounts are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
