Basketball Recap: Northampton County Extends Winning Streak to Four

Northampton County came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Southeast Halifax Trojans by a score of 68-61. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 56-55 victory the Trojans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Northampton County had a senior duo take command as Torrey Harris went 7 for 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points and three steals and Jiyoun Williams dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harris has scored all season. Rashaud Wilder was another key player, putting up five points and five rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Southeast Halifax saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Clinton Mills Jr. went 9 of 12 on his way to 21 points along with five boards and three steals. Mills Jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of O'Tavion Arrington, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 16 points.

Northampton County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Southeast Halifax, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Northampton County will be playing in front of their home fans against North Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Edgecombe is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season. As for Southeast Halifax, they will venture away from home to square off against Roanoke Rapids at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southeast Halifax is facing Roanoke Rapids at the right time seeing as Roanoke Rapids is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
