Softball Recap: Langston Hughes Wins Going Away Against Morrow

Langston Hughes had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Morrow on Thursday. The Panthers never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Panthers this season.

Brandi Walter was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Destini Evans was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in September of 2024. Victoria Scruggs was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Langston Hughes always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morrow only posted an OBP of .000.

Langston Hughes' victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Morrow, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Langston Hughes will head out to challenge Lovejoy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.33 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Morrow, they will challenge Mundy's Mill at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.83 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
