The Pinole Valley Spartans fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Saint Mary's Panthers on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 77-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Monday (64), Pinole Valley still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Pinole Valley still got an impressive performance from Jaylin Reed, who scored 22 points along with eight steals and five assists. Reed continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Navdeep Johal, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Pinole Valley now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Saint Mary's, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinole Valley will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against St. Patrick-St. Vincent at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. As for Saint Mary's, they will face off against De Anza at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. De Anza is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
