Basketball Game Preview: Alexandria City Titans vs. Woodson Cavaliers

Alexandria City and Woodson are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Alexandria City Titans will be playing at home against the Woodson Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodson took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Alexandria City, who comes in off a win.

Alexandria City is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Friendship Collegiate Academy with a sharp 67-46 victory on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Titans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 169th in Virginia, while the Knights are ranked seventh in District of Columbia).

Alexandria City found their leader in freshman Gabrielle Barnes-Thomas, who posted 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barnes-Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kori Dickerson, who put up 12 points.

Meanwhile, Woodson was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 32-27 to Robinson. The match marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Woodson and nudges their season record down to 8-5. As for Alexandria City, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Alexandria City was dealt a bruising 71-37 defeat at the hands of Woodson when the teams last played on January 4th. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Woodson's Emma Komaily, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points along with seven steals and five assists.
