The Burwell Longhorns suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. Their tough 58-37 defeat to Central Valley might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Burwell in their matchups with Central Valley: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Burwell still got an impressive performance from Wryder Svoboda, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. Svoboda has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times he's played. Hayes Plugge was another key contributor, scoring four points along with six rebounds.
Central Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tae Soto, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Soto also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Cordel Wagner, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Burwell has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Central Valley, they pushed their record up to 7-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Burwell will take on St. Francis at TBD on Saturday. Central Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Nebraska Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Nebraska Christian has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 9.
