Venice is on a ten-game streak of home wins, while DeLand is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Venice Indians will take on the DeLand Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Venice had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Rams 49-23. With Venice ahead 35-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Jadyn Glasser was on fire: he threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Cj Lewis, who picked up 122 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Riverview Sarasota to a paltry 246 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Venice's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. In that department, David Galloway was the leader with two sacks.
Meanwhile, DeLand's offense rose to the challenge against a Titans defense that boasted an average of only 18.08 points allowed. DeLand simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Treasure Coast 37-6 on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as DeLand just coasted through the last quarter.
DeLand had a senior duo take command as Tyron Moore rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries and Javon Ross picked up 204 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Venice to 11-2 and Riverview Sarasota to 8-5.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Venice commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 6.7 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like DeLand struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
