It was a good run, but the Danville Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 62-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Plainfield. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Emma Ancelet and Addison Davis certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Ancelet scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists, while Davis dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Davis' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Ava Walls was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Plainfield found their leader in underclassman Hannah Menser, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Menser pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkeley Williams, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Danville's loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3. As for Plainfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Danville will square off against Decatur Central at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Soriah Gouard and Ancelet. As for Plainfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Franklin Community at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin Community is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Plainfield a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
