North Salinas and Gilroy are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The North Salinas Vikings will be home for the holidays to greet the Gilroy Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Monday, North Salinas was beaten by Alisal 77-38. While losing is never fun, North Salinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1020th, while Alisal is ranked 494th).
Despite their defeat, North Salinas saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Trevon Kubulan, who scored seven points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kubulan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Lizaola, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Gilroy was just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 46-45 to San Lorenzo Valley. Gilroy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
North Salinas' defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Gilroy, they bumped their record down to 3-8 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.
North Salinas ended up a good deal behind Gilroy in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, losing 56-41. Thankfully for North Salinas, Owen Gallegos (who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 0 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
