The Oxford Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Germantown Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Oxford had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 42-6 victory over Hernando at home. The result was nothing new for Oxford, who have now won four contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
Even though Germantown has not done well against Clinton recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. Germantown walked away with a 42-35 victory over Clinton. The win was just what Germantown needed coming off of a 49-0 defeat in their prior game.
Oxford's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Germantown, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-5.
Oxford came up short against Germantown when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 26-16. Can Oxford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
