The Eaton Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Brookville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Eaton turned things around against Dixie on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 14-1 victory. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Haydn Scott made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Colt Hendrickson and Chase Overholtz did most of the damage at the plate: Hendrickson went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Overholtz went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Hendrickson a new career-high. Landon Knobloch was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Eaton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, Brookville was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against West Carrollton as they made off with a 14-1 win.
Eaton's record is now 4-8. As for Brookville, their record now sits at 2-3.
Eaton came up short against Brookville in their previous meeting on Friday, falling 6-1. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
