The Lake of the Woods Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Kelliher/Northome, falling 85-20. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lake of the Woods in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now lost six in a row.
Kate Thayer was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 12 steals for Kelliher/Northome. Thayer is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Binkley, who went 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 4 assists.
Lake of the Woods has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Kelliher/Northome, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake of the Woods' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Bears at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Clearbrook-Gonvick is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Kelliher/Northome, they will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine River-Backus knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge.
